چکیده

Arthropods in general, and the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster (Figure. 1A), in particular, have traditionally served as models in developmental biology for understanding morphology or for biomedical reasons providing a key to the development of studies on vertebrates, as an important model of genetic organism. All the fundamentals of classical genetics were built largely through studies on these insects, where molecular genetic testing with this Diptera became the basis for understanding ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 3 Number 10 (2014) pp. 156-168 http://www.ijcmas.com

Evolutionary phenomics and the emerging enlightenment of’arthropod systematics

Published research on the diversity and evolutionary history of Arthropoda sets a high standard for data collection and the integration of novel methods. New phylogenetic estimation algorithms, divergence time approaches, collaborative tools and publishing standards, to name a few, were brought to the broader scientific audience in the context of arthropod systematics. The treatment of morpholo...

Phylogeny of some species of Astragalus (Fabaceae) based on morphological data

The phylogenetic relationships among 39 species belonging to 12 sections of Astragalus from Iran were studied on the basis of 29 morphological characters. The cladistics analysis of the morphological data was performed using PAUP* 4.0b10 program. The obtained data were compared with the molecular systematics data obtained from nuclear DNA ITS. In contrast with previous molecular systematic stud...

Dynamic homology and the likelihood criterion

The use of likelihood as an optimality criterion is explored in the context of dynamic homology. Simple models and procedures are described to allow the analysis of large variable length sequence data sets, alone and in combination with qualitative information (such as morphology). Several approaches are discussed that have different likelihood interpretations in terms of maximum parsimony like...

Introduction to the Arizona Sky Island Arthropod Project (ASAP): Systematics, Biogeography, Ecology, and Population Genetics of Arthropods of the Madrean Sky Islands.

The Arizona Sky Island Arthropod Project (ASAP) is a new multi-disciplinary research program at the University of Arizona that combines systematics, biogeography, ecology, and population genetics to study origins and patterns of arthropod diversity along elevation gradients and among mountain ranges in the Madrean Sky Island Region. Arthropods represent taxonomically and ecologically diverse or...

Plant systematics in the age of genomics.

As plant biologists enter a new era in which comparative genomics promises to address fundamental questions in botany, such as unraveling metabolic and regulatory networks, the inestimable value and usefulness of robust systematic studies quickly become clear. In simplest terms, systematic studies can indicate which genomes in the plant kingdom to search, sample, and study for the answers to qu...
